Descriptions
Mechanical seals are devices that are used to provide a seal at the point of entry or exit of a rotating shaft. Typically it is used to prevent the leakage of one high pressure fluid into a lower pressure fluid. Given that Health and Safety and Environmental legislation are becoming more stringent and the need to have improved efficiency of process equipment the need for a reliable and predictable mechanical seal performance is an important aspect that users of pressurised rotating equipment need to consider. Given also that the design emphasis of new rotating equipment focuses on higher performance characteristics this in turn dictates that the mechanical seals used on such equipment has to be able to operate under the most arduous conditions.
